FURII: ILK

Updated: 2 days ago

"Furii is the first Nomark signing and "Ilk" is the first Furii song. Featuring vocals from Jo Spratley who Furii is currently touring with as part of Cardiacs (holy shit the fucking Cardiacs). it's a really proud day for me and the song is glorious go listen" - Amon Tobin

Furii (pronounced Fury) is the new alias of Adrien Rodes AKA Topo Gigio and long-time member of Tim Smith’s Spratleys and new recruit to Cardiacs.

Ilk is the first single from Furii and came about when, as Adrien says, “Nomark caught me off guard and asked for material. Even though Amon has set the sonic bar very high with his various aliases, it feels like the perfect home to reconnect with compositional and production experiments.”

Ilk is elemental. A lullaby penned by the Brothers Grimm.

Musically it is a cosy cotton wool embrace, if that cotton wool was dipped in lavender and laudanum. As soothing as it is disconcerting. “Jo Spratley has kindly lent her beautiful voice and words for this first tune. I was after a witchy lullaby vibe and I certainly got plenty of it.”

Ilk is all the more beautiful for its contradictions.

“I have no set plan as to where I want to take things with Furii. I’m as puzzled as ever as to why and how music works (you can probably tell) and I’ll hopefully never find out.”

For Nomark this is the first release by an artist who isn’t one of Amon’s aliases - Tobin explains “For me personally this is a big moment. When we started Nomark the idea was to make an uncompromised place for my own music but always with a view to one day opening up to other artists. Furii is Nomark’s first official signing and I couldn’t be more proud. A songwriter I’ve admired for over twenty years and a musician so talented he’s now a member of the Cardiacs. Enough can’t possibly be said about the Cardiacs. If you know you know and it’s such an honour to have Jo from Tim Smith’s Spratleys also feature on this extraordinary piece of music. Yup, it's a big day for all of us here at Nomark.”
