OK, so I know a lot of instrument plugins, but my knowledge is not that broad on the effect plugin part.
Basically I want to have some better plugins on the effects part, i.e. compression, eq, limiters, reverb, delay, filters., etc.
I'm using Logic Pro 9, so it have to be Audio Units, but most plugins for Mac come in both AU and VST flavour. Logic comes with quite a bundle of plugins on this part, but I find some of them a bit limited.
Anyone can give me a kick start?
Some good plugins, either very expensive best ones, or cheap, complete packs, or maybe even free. I don't mind buying, I prefer quality over price.
I just want to get deeper into this stuff, so please post anything you know, even if I'll never be able to afford it.
I looked at SLT, are they any good? Fabfilter seem interesting, versatile and not too expensive, but also kind of toyish(the interface).
The Antares bundle looks nice for voice stuff, but is it as good as the name implies? As it's kinda costy. |

hi silami,
before, for "simili " mastering i use cubase ans soundforge with urs eq, cubase comp, a waves plugins for phase & limiter.
i star on logic some month. (i still prefer cubaxe but friend i work with prefer logic for prod & ableton for creation)
so, for the first tries i made.
logic is quite similar to cubase, all plugs of logic do there job correctly.
it's ok for mixing & all production process.
for mastering i switsh to soundtrackpro.
all tools works fine, especialy the phase effect in image section.
personaly i use first the optocomp -> dynamic section
then the opto expander (comp ratio from 0.5 to 1) with a slow attack
then a really few platinum verb
then the phase tool -> image section
then the limiter -> dynamic section
& somtime i overcompress with an hardware strange comp : the ridgefarm boiler (it's special but effect is somtime interisting)
then 2 APY 550b hardware EQ
then the RME tool to check phase correction dynamic etc.
and I re-record in soundtrack
I suppose that i will work as well if you use plugin EQ after the 2 comp ?
my use of mastering is just the last step to finalise the mix,
it doesn't have a radical action.
tracks sound louder and cleaner but it doesn't change a lot.
I hope it will help you

it's $10550...
a rossetta 200 or a larby converter + a massive passive & a vari-mu are less expansive.
& logic plugins are similar to waves, exept reverbs... |

I just registered for the forum and saw this post. I thought I would recommend a couple of things I like
Izotope Ozone is excellent for in the box mastering and can also do some extreme processing.
My favourite filter is PSP nitro
Hope that is of some use |

I would recommend Izotype Bundle, it looks cool(very important ) and unless you have expensive monitors and an acoustically treated room, you don't need those killer expensive bundles. I would recommend getting a tune in wav, thats about the same typ of song you wanna get. And constantly compair. Never maximize too much, it becomes very tiring for the ears. Also make the master reverb very very subtle, turn it slowly up until you can hear it and then turn it down a bit. Don't do anything drastic with the eq, that should have been done in the mix. If you are mastering your whole album, put every track on a track in your DAW and constantly swap between them so you can get the same loudness feel for every song. Always have a little more then -3db headroom (that's how much dither takes) and dither with type 2 unless you know what you are doing.
That's my 2 cents ^^
Actually it's better that someone else masters, then the person who mixed but yeah who can afford it or has friends who can master |
